{"id":160,"date":"2019-07-01T21:08:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T19:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/english.beefree.es\/?p=160"},"modified":"2019-07-18T13:57:38","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T11:57:38","slug":"problem-solving-construction-of-small-cells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.resistantbees.es\/?p=160","title":{"rendered":"Problem-solving &#8211; construction of small cells"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p lang=\"en\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>It is absolutely necessary that the bees know how to build the small cells well.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The most difficult part of the work to gain a bee, which defends herself by herself against the Varroa mite and other diseases is that the bee can build the\u00a0<a href=\"\/?p=108\">small cells<\/a>\u00a0well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If a hive can build the small cells, it is very likely that he can defend itself, without the use of chemicals.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt seems that the level of 4.9 mm represents a limit below which the bees can defend themselves against the diseases.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p lang=\"en\"><strong>A bee that is born in a 4.9 mm cell, can build very likely again this measure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p lang=\"en\">This we can achieve very quickly through the use of\u00a0<a href=\"\/?p=476\">fully drawn plastic combs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But in practice several hives will have problems to build this size good.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The problems encountered in building the small cells occur mainly at times of strong nectar flow.<\/strong>\u00a0We must always consider and prepare our management that the bees may not need to build many combs if there is a strong nectar flow. Here our biggest problem was during the almond bloom. It seemed that the bees had suddenly forgotten everything they had learned, but once this bloom was over, everything normalized immediately.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We must also reckon with, that small cells can be built best IN the brood nest.<\/strong>\u00a0So have to add new foundation frames alwayss right next to a broodcomb, or if the hive is very strong, we can also give them right into the brood nest.<\/p>\n<p>There are various degrees of defects in the development of small cells.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"4\" cellpadding=\"4\" align=\"left\">\n<thead><\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td style=\"width: 27.1429%;\"><span id=\"result_box\" lang=\"en\">This is a comb that shows light defects in the upper part . The only small cells that are somehow drawn well are marked green\u00a0<strong>In this comb there will settle a lot of Varroa mites and will multiply a lot<\/strong><strong>We have to cull this comb and change it with a well drawn small cell comb from another hive.
